Children

Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, the Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE), requires that applicants for teaching and administrative certification and prospective employees of covered schools (school districts, charter schools, and BOCES) undergo a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check. This will affect all new applications for certification filed with the Department after July 1, 2001, as well as new employees of covered schools who are hired by official action of the governing body after July 1, 2001.

Fingerprint packets, which consist of two fingerprint cards (one for DCJS and one for the FBI), Fingerprint Information and Instructions (OSPRA 100) and a consent form (OSPRA 101) should be available at any local school district, charter school, BOCES, and institutions of higher education with teacher preparation programs.

Once you have obtained your packet you can call the Cold Spring Police Department @ 265-3407 to schedule a time for printing. The department does not have packets. You must provide your own.

This also pertains to those people applying for other licenses or permits.

Why fingerprint your child?

At one time or another, every parent has experienced the panic of not knowing where their child is, even if only for a moment. On any given day, you hear reports of children wandering off in department stores, amusement parks, and campgrounds. Thankfully, most lost children are quickly recovered and returned to their parents.

Despite our best efforts, nearly 2,100 children a day, or almost 2 children a minute, are reported missing. Many can be recovered if their parents immediately provide police with a complete record of identification. Parents should always be prepared, just in case of emergency, by keeping updated records at home & away.

The Village of Cold Spring Police Department would like to aid you in this effort by helping you to fingerprint your child for identification purposes. Many kits are available on the web. We would be happy to assist you in completing your kit or creating a kit of your own.
